Stocktakes can be performed on one or a range of items, and can be done in various ways depending on the particular requirements or setup of the warehouse.
The traditional stocktake method – the simplest method – is covered under "Traditional Method" in the Introduction to Distribution Training Manual.
Another more complex method, stocktake with serial numbers, was covered earlier in this manual – see "Stocktake with Serial Numbers".

This method is used to obtain very accurate variance reports and is commonly used in conjunction with PDAs to ensure item identification integrity. Once you have entered your first stocktake count figures into Micronet, Micronet can create a new stocktake batch containing only those items where there is a discrepancy between the original quantity and the count quantity so that only those items need to be recounted.
This method is commonly used when large stocktakes cannot be undertaken in a single day using the methods above. PDAs are very useful for this method to ensure item identification integrity and they also greatly reduce data entry time.
